Hong Kong to Ban Fishing Trawlers?

By | September 4, 2008

It looks like Hong Kong may actually ban banning fishing trawlers in its waters to save fish stocks. This comes after an analysis on Thursday that shows that trawling catches infant fish which die even if released because of too much trauma. This may actually be a good thing since Hong Kong I am sure consumes so much fish, and is one of the largest cities in the world.

They definitely need some kind of restrictions with a report like this. Their production of fish in local waters has reached 26,700 tonnes, which is well above the 30 percent maximum sustainable yield which was put in place after a study. So hopefully people will understand how much an importance this is to the agriculture of Hong Kong.
